How do you get married in Islam?
Normally, the ceremony consists of reading from the Quran, and the exchange of vows in front of witnesses for both partners. No special religious official is necessary, but often the Imam is present and performs the ceremony. He may give a short sermon. There are certain things which are basic to all Muslim marriages.
What is expected in a Muslim marriage?
The marriage contract is signed in a nikah ceremony, in which the groom or his representative proposes to the bride in front of at least two witnesses, stating the details of the meher. The bride and groom demonstrate their free will by repeating the word qabul (I accept, in Arabic) three times.
